Free Radicals-The Cause Of Thousand Diseases
I believe that most of you have hear of free radicals. Anyway , do you know what it is ? Where do free radicals come from ? What are the roles of free radicals in our body ? Maybe you do not know about them ?
What Is Free Radicals
Simply speaking , free radicals are the atoms , molecules or ions that do not go into electron pairs. They are chemical substances that have very short life cycle and produce from any part of our body. As they go into odd numbers only , then the atoms or molecules of free radicals are not stable. When free radicals that are not stable are produced , the cells that want to be stabilized must “ steal ” the electrons from other cells. Unfortunately , when the electrons of a normal cell are “ robbed ” , the cells will become impermanent ; and the cells whose electrons have been plundered will also have the act of robbing other cells’ electrons. Thus produce some chain reactions.
Chain reactions Of Free Radicals
Disturbance to the electrons of the cells allow the free radicals to have the uncontrollable robbing behavior and this act will then expand rapidly. One thing that we must heed on is that the free radicals that have robbed the electrons will not become a normal atom or molecule. This is because when the electrons are floating freely around the free radicals , the ox general that exists every where will allow the new free radicals to become super oxide.
During this time , if the cells are unable to do auto-repairing , sudden changes will occur and age ing and diseases will begin to occur. That is why scientists and medical experts all agree that excessive free radicals are indeed a dangerous phenomena.
The cause Of Many Diseases
Many recent records have shown that ageing and diseases have direct relationship with free radicals and anti-oxidants. The scope of influence by free radicals are very big ; this include inflam matory diseases , hardening of arteries , cancers , diabetes , glaucoma , swollen lungs ,autoimmunity , nervous that is regarded as one of the top 10 diseases has close relationship with free radicals.
However ,apart from metabolism that can produce free radicals , air and contaminated drinking water will also produce a lot free radicals. We must also remind the readers not to take food excessively. Increase of metabolism will also produce free radicals , speeds up ageing and diseases.
Maintaining Life
In the biologicals system , a typical free radicals comprises of two types : Active oxygen and active nitrogen free radicals. Recently the NO is the type of free radical that has become the attention of many. It has even being nominated by the American Science Digest as the Molecule Of The Year of 1992.
If we look on the perspective of chemistry , the process of fromation of free radicals is in fact a type of oxidization process. Bodily function in fact requires oxidation in order to produce energy. Hence , free radicals will be produced in our body anytime. They are the essential life maintaining substances.
However , not all the free radicals are harmful. Take for example the auto-production of carbon monoxide , it can reduce the blood pressure by smoothen the wall of the blood capillaries and at the same time activates the cells in order to regulate immunity function. Unfortunately excessive carbon monoxide is very poisonous , it will react with super oxidants’ free radicals.
Balances Oxidization And Anti-Oxidation
Our body itself is a type of physique that has anti-oxidation ability. During the process of oxidation , excessive free radicals in the body will be discarded.
The high and low ability of the body’s anti-oxidation is very much dependent on the oxidation substance and oxidation enzyme as well as whether the activeness is sufficient. In this respect , the absorption of minerals also plays an important role. The anti-oxidation substances are mostly the multi-vitamins and G6PD etc.
Our body also cannot lack of free radicals. With ageing process in mind , the auto-cleansing of free radicals will deteriorate with the progress of time. The right means of preventing excessive free radicals in the body being : Have healthy body , adequate amount of nutrients and exercise , anti-oxidation substances and mlcroelements , increases anti-oxidation ability , reduce the intake of chemical additives ,do not take too much food , take less fried and oily food and avoid exposure to direct sunrays.
